Megha Sukumaran

Megha has been very passionate about dance since her childhood years. She used to be part of many cultural programs in school, during her undergraduate years in India and while pursuing a Master’s Degree at the Polytechnic Institute of NYU, performing various classical and folk dance forms. She started her training in Bharatanatyam at the age of seven under the tutelage of Shri Sudheesh Kumar, a disciple of Kalakshetra, and had her Arangetram at the age of sixteen. She joined Mona Khan Company as a student in 2015 and went on to become an assistant instructor in 2016 and a primary instructor later that year.

As an instructor, Megha wants her students to break their inhibitions and discover their innate abilities. She wants them to feel the same passion that she has for dance by constantly encouraging them and making them feel accepted throughout the journey. It’s a very proud and satisfying moment to watch several weeks of hard work put by students and instructors unfold and come to life on stage. Megha sees teaching as a means of expressing her gratitude to her mentors and instructors from Mona Khan Company who have had faith in her, supported her through this journey and given her this great opportunity.

The intention of perfection on stage keeps Megha motivated and focused on her goals. Dance makes her feel like a different person altogether with all the energy and the adrenaline rush. Learning new and complex moves makes her feel stronger and confident by the day. She enjoys expressing her emotions in many ways through dance; it frees her soul and makes her happy form within.

Outside the studio, Megha can be found consulting as Validation Engineer for Biopharmaceutical companies. She enjoys singing as much as she loves dancing. She learnt Carnatic music for ten years under the tutelage of Smt Saraswati and Smt Nandini Shankar from Swaralaya Academy of Fine Arts, Chennai. She likes adventure sports, traveling, hiking, hanging out with friends, working out and watching TV.
