Monika Ramaswamy

Monika began training in dance in 2000 in Bangalore, India, at the Shiamak Davar Institute for the Performing Arts (SDIPA). She progressed to become a senior instructor at SDIPA from 2003 to 2008, teaching Bollywood and Bollywood influenced Jazz to children and adults at many of SDIPA's centers in Delhi, Bombay, Pune, Bangalore, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Chennai. She was an active member of the Victory Arts Foundation in SDIPA— an organization reaching out to kids with special needs, using dance as a medium.

She had the opportunity to dance in the “Nach Baliye” song in the movie “Bunty Aur Bubli” (you can try and spot her!), in addition to performing at several corporate events, product launches and live shows in national and international arenas. A highlight of her dance career was to be part of the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia in 2006.

Monika was inspired by her first dance instructor, who always said, “Dance is a communication between the body and soul.” She feels that dance is a perfect way to find joy, by bringing joy to others, by sharing this creative expression. It is also an ideal way to stay fit! She believes that one should not over think while dancing but allow the music to take over and to be in the moment.

Monika started working with Naach as a dance instructor in March 2008 and has continued to work with Mona at the Mona Khan Company since the company's inception in 2009. In addition to being a dancer and an instructor, Monika is also the Dance Quality Control Manager at the company.

Monika loves traveling, watching movies, making puzzles and shopping for her family and friends!
