Classes begin with a warm up, and then progress to the learning of choreography. Instructors focus on style, technique, formations and performance. The level of the class determines the elements of choreography and the complexity of movement. Instructors select songs and medleys for their classes, and is often done in consultation with students. We pick a variety of themes and styles quarter after quarter to ensure students are challenged, excited and continually introduced to new artistic concepts.
Our structured Bollywood dance class program is intended to provide a true progression from one level to the next. Students are challenged at each level with a technical syllabus that is translated by their instructors into creative ideas and insanely fun choreography!
Prerequisites: None. Open to new and continuing Basic students.
The Basic class introduces students to fundamental steps, techniques and styles in Bollywood dance along with an emphasis on posture, alignment, strength, flexibility and coordination. There is a focus on performance – as expressions and emotions are intrinsic to Bollywood. Gaining self-confidence is an important aspect and goal of this level. The Intermediate class consists of intricate steps and choreography along with a greater emphasis on the performance aspect of dance. The skills studied in the Basic level are further honed; and more complex elements such as prop work, floor routines, turns, formations and partner work are explored. To enroll in an Intermediate class, the student must have mastered all the fundamental steps taught in the Basic class and be promoted by the instructor.
Prerequisites: i) Completion of the Intermediate level and Intermediate class instructor recommendation for evaluations ii) passing the evaluation.
